It's World Oral Health Day!

World Oral Health Day (WOHD) 2023, an annual event on March 20th, is an invitation from the World Dental Foundation to reduce the burden of oral diseases worldwide.

Oral diseases affect a significant number of people, with an estimated 3.5 billion individuals impacted globally, making it the most widespread health condition. This leads to pain, discomfort, social isolation, loss of confidence, and can result in various health problems. However, most oral health conditions are preventable and can be treated in their early stages.

WOHD serves as a platform to raise awareness and educate people on the importance of good oral health, providing them with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to maintain it. The goal is to inspire change and promote the significance of oral health in leading a happier and longer life.

The next three years' theme is simple but powerful: "Be proud of your mouth" - meaning to value and care for it.

To achieve and maintain good oral health, it is essential to practice the following actions:

  • Brush for two minutes, twice a day, with a fluoridated toothpaste.
  • Visit the dentist every six months for a check-up and cleaning.
  • Consume a well-balanced diet that is low in sugar, high in fruits and vegetables, and drink plenty of water.
  • Avoid all forms of tobacco.
  • Limit alcohol consumption.
  • Use protective equipment such as a mouthguard when playing sports or traveling on bicycles to reduce the risk of injury.

Oral health is a crucial pillar of overall health and well-being, and managing risk factors for oral diseases can help avoid other serious health conditions. The team at North Adelaide Dental Care joins the global movement by being proud of their mouth this WOHD and taking action to support their oral health and well-being.
