Kluet's Trip to the Dentist

Dr Greg Miller recently donated his time to sort out some problem chompers for Adelaide Zoo’s beloved Sumatran Orangutan, Kluet. This is Dr Miller’s second time working on Kluet’s teeth, with his first being a little over three years ago.

Like 25 per cent of the Australian population, Kluet was found to be suffering from periodontitis - a gum disease we commonly see in humans. In working with the Adelaide Zoo’s veterinary team, Dr Miller undertook a thorough examination, gum check, scale and clean and four extractions.

“Kluet was no different to provisioning dental care to a human, he was just a whole lot hairier!” said Dr Greg Miller

Any members of the public suffering from loose or mobile teeth, bleeding, receding or inflamed gums are encouraged to contact their local dentist.

26-year-old Kluet will be flashing a much brighter smile now.
